The Milano Centrale station is the main railway station of Lombardy, it is the second in Italy for passenger flow, only surpassed by Roma Termini.

The Milano Centrale station was inaugurated in 1931 to replace the one where now there is Piazza della Repubblica which was insufficient due to the increase in railway traffic. The railway network is managed by the Ferrovie dello Stato group, while the internal commercial area is owned by Grandi Stazioni. Since November 2010 the Milan station has been dedicated to Santa Francesca Cabrini, the founder of the Congregation of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The project of the central station in Milan was entrusted to Ulisse Stacchini in 1912 who renamed his work “Cattedrale” of the Movement “.

The central station of Milan is the nerve center of national and international travel, inside there are 24 tracks and many shops, bars, restaurants, bookshops, and everything that can be useful for those travelling.

Of the 24 tracks present there is one still and is the number 21, the one from which the trains loaded with deported Jews destined to the Nazi extermination camps departed, the names of these people are engraved on the Wall of Names, a museum that is located under the tracks of the station.
